SPARS Web Launch Planned for Early January

December 1, 2005

SPARS Web, the new online version of the software, will be launched in early January. The online version eliminates several user maintenance issues and offers multi-user access as well as providing secure ease-of-use access from most Internet providers.

SPARS is the State Permitting and Air Reporting System, and when online, SPARS Web will make it easier for regulated customers to submit air construction and operating permit applications and major and minor source air emission inventories. SPARS Web maintains the look and feel of the previous software, so users will be familiar with the operation with little to no additional training.

SPARS Web eliminates significant user maintenance time and the need to transfer data on CD-Rom or diskette. Further, any DNR changes to database fields or formats are immediately available to facility users - no more need to download software upgrades or database patches.

The upgrade allows secure multiple user access. For example, multiple users can work on a construction permit application and an emissions inventory simultaneously for the same facility.

To access and use the system, a secure account for a system administrator and an official responsible for submitting applications and inventories must be established. Facilities interested in establishing an early account for system access should contact the DNR's Kevin Connolly at 515-281-8983.

A letter announcing SPARS Web will be sent to all Title V facilities in early December and a letter to minor sources in January.

For more information, contact the DNR's Kevin Connolly at 515-281-8983 or kevin.connolly@dnr.iowa.gov.
