Informational Meeting on proposed Rules for Greenhouse Gases
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Air Quality Bureau is hosting an informational meeting on its proposed greenhouse gas (GHG) rulemaking on Tuesday, December 8 from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the conference rooms at the Air Quality Bureau offices in Windsor Heights.
The DNR is proposing the changes to accommodate new, proposed federal regulations for greenhouse gases, also called the “tailoring” rule. This is a rulemaking concurrent with federal regulations to assure that the current thresholds for the Title V and the Prevention of Deterioration (PSD) program will not inadvertently trigger permitting requirements in Iowa. At this time, the DNR is adopting only the proposed federal definitions and timing, not the additional provisions in the federal “tailoring rule.”
At the meeting, DNR staff will provide a brief overview of both the proposed federal regulations and the DNR’s proposed rules, with questions and discussion following. The DNR will present the proposed rules to the Environmental Protection Commission (EPC) on Tuesday, December 15.
The tentative agenda for the meeting is:
- Meeting purpose and introductions – Catharine Fitzsimmons
- Background on EPA GHG tailoring rule – Marnie Stein
- Iowa GHG tailoring rule review – Christine Paulson
- Informal comments and discussion
The DNR’s proposed rules on the EPC meeting agenda is available here. For questions or for more information, contact Christine Paulson at (515) 242-5154 or by e-mail at christine.paulson@dnr.iowa.gov.
