Western Iowa Minor Source Emission Inventory Reports Due May 15

Minor Source facilities located in the western third of Iowa must submit their Minor Source Emission Inventory (MSEI) for 2008 to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Air Quality Bureau by May 15, 2009.

A complete air pollutant inventory is required by sub rule 567 IAC 21.1(3), and the data collected is used to track Iowa’s progress towards National Ambient Air Quality Standards, perform regional modeling, develop control and maintenance strategies, and identify sources and general emission levels. MSEI forms and updated instructions can be downloaded from www.iowacleanair.com/prof/emiss/eform.html . To request a paper copy of the forms, call (515) 281-8500. Please visit www.iowacleanair.com/prof/emiss/emiss.html to view a list of frequently used emissions inventory resources which may assist in completing the MSEI. Additionally, links for tips, frequently asked questions, inventory tools, and exemptions may also be accessed by visiting www.iowacleanair.com/prof/emiss/msemiss.html.

The Iowa DNR will again offer Minor Source Emission Inventory SPARS training this year. Facilities intending to submit the MSEI electronically are strongly encouraged to attend SPARS training. This year the SPARS training sessions will be held April 8 and 9 at the IDNR offices in Urbandale. The Iowa DNR will send out additional information regarding SPARS training at a later time.

Minor source facilities with less than 100 employees may also contact the Iowa Air Emissions Assistance Program (IAEAP) at the University of Northern Iowa for free assistance in completing the MSEI. For more information regarding free assistance through the IAEAP, please call 1-800-422-3109.

For questions regarding MSEI reports, call Nick Page at (515) 281-8500.
